This multi-agent chemotherapy regimen is a consolidation strategy used for pediatric patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Developed and utilized by the Grupo Argentino de Tratamiento de la Leucemia Aguda (GATLA) in the GATLA 8-LMA-P'07 trial, the regimen consists of six drugs: 6-thioguanine (an antimetabolite), prednisone (a corticosteroid), vincristine (a vinca alkaloid), idarubicin (an anthracycline), cytarabine (an antimetabolite), and cyclophosphamide (an alkylating agent). The regimen aims to eliminate residual leukemic cells following induction therapy through multiple mechanisms, including DNA intercalation, inhibition of DNA synthesis, and induction of apoptosis. In the trial context, it served as the conventional consolidation comparator against a block therapy approach.
