Drug intelligence / Profile preview
601A is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody targeting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), currently in Phase 1 clinical development by Sunshine Guojian Pharmaceutical (also known as the National Engineering Research Center of Antibody Medicine). It is being developed for the treatment of retinal vascular diseases, specifically neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration and diabetic macular edema. The antibody works by binding to and neutralizing VEGF, thereby inhibiting the pathological angiogenesis and increased vascular permeability that characterize these vision-threatening conditions. As an anti-VEGF biologic, 601A aims to prevent abnormal blood vessel growth and leakage in the retina, similar to other established VEGF inhibitors used in ophthalmology.
