Drug intelligence / Profile preview
62% ethanol hand cleanser is an antiseptic formulation used as the active component of the Sprixx Hand Hygiene System. Developed and evaluated by Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, this multimodal system utilizes a body-worn dispenser to facilitate and track hand hygiene compliance among healthcare providers in intensive care units. Ethanol exerts its antimicrobial effect by denaturing proteins and disrupting the lipid bilayers of a broad spectrum of bacteria, fungi, and enveloped viruses. The system aims to reduce the incidence of healthcare-associated infections by providing real-time feedback and educational components alongside the antiseptic intervention.
