Overview

63Zn-zinc citrate is a radiolabeled form of zinc citrate in which the stable isotope of zinc (zinc-63) is incorporated. Zinc citrate itself is a highly bioavailable salt of citric acid and zinc, commonly used as a dietary supplement and in pharmaceutical formulations to address or prevent zinc deficiency. It supports immune function, wound healing, enzyme activity (as a cofactor for over 300 enzymes), and acts as an antioxidant[6][9]. Zinc plays catalytic, structural, and regulatory roles in numerous biological processes including DNA synthesis, cell division, protein synthesis, and immune response[7]. The radiolabeled form (using the isotope 63Zn) is primarily used for research purposes such as tracing absorption or distribution of zinc in biological systems rather than direct therapeutic use.
