64Cu-P7D3fab2 is a radiolabeled immunoPET imaging probe designed to target the Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV) envelope protein. It consists of a Fab2 fragment of the P7D3 antibody, which specifically binds to the SIV envelope, conjugated to the positron-emitting radioisotope Copper-64 (64Cu). Developed primarily for research in non-human primate models of HIV/SIV, this probe is used to visualize and characterize viral reservoirs in anatomical compartments such as the brain. By utilizing PET/CT imaging, researchers can identify viral "hotspots" and guide tissue resection for downstream molecular analysis of proviral and viral dynamics. The probe is typically administered intrathecally to bypass the blood-brain barrier and facilitate imaging of the central nervous system reservoir.
