64Cu-TR2205 is an investigational radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent developed by Tongrui Biopharmaceutical (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. for the detection and localization of recurrent metastatic prostate cancer. It consists of the positron-emitting radioisotope Copper-64 (64Cu) conjugated to TR2205, a high-affinity ligand targeting Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA). PSMA is a cell-surface protein that is significantly overexpressed in nearly all prostate cancer cells, with levels increasing in higher-grade, metastatic, and castration-resistant disease. Upon intravenous administration, 64Cu-TR2205 binds to PSMA-expressing cells, allowing for high-resolution Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging. The use of Copper-64 provides a longer physical half-life (12.7 hours) compared to Gallium-68 (68 minutes), which facilitates delayed imaging to improve tumor-to-background ratios and enables centralized production and distribution to clinical centers without on-site cyclotrons.
