Overview

67Ga-fibrinogen is a radiopharmaceutical consisting of human fibrinogen labeled with the radioisotope gallium-67, using a chelator such as deferoxamine (DFO or DF) for in vivo stability and binding. It is primarily used as a nuclear medicine agent for imaging acute venous and arterial thrombi (blood clots) due to its high affinity for newly formed fibrin within thrombi. After intravenous administration, the radiolabeled fibrinogen incorporates selectively at sites of active thrombosis, allowing targeted scintigraphic imaging up to 96 hours post-injection. Imaging quality is comparable or superior to conventional 131I-fibrinogen, and the compound demonstrates high in vivo and in vitro stability and favorable thrombus-to-blood localization. 67Ga-fibrinogen has been primarily used for thrombosis detection and research; it is not widely adopted in routine clinical practice due to the emergence of newer radiopharmaceuticals.
