67Ga-galuminox is a novel radiopharmaceutical SPECT (Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography) imaging tracer designed for the in vivo detection and quantification of reactive oxygen species (ROS). ROS play a critical role in the pathogenesis of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI). The tracer consists of the Galuminox ligand labeled with the gamma-emitting isotope Gallium-67. In preclinical porcine models, 67Ga-galuminox has demonstrated the ability to accurately identify and quantify ROS activation in infarcted myocardial segments, showing a positive correlation with tissue gamma counting and a negative correlation with myocardial perfusion as measured by 99mTc-tetrofosmin. It is being developed as a diagnostic tool to assess oxidative stress in cardiovascular diseases.
