Overview

68Ga-A9-3202 is a radiodiagnostic imaging agent developed by Alpha-9 Oncology for the detection of locally advanced or metastatic melanoma. It is a gallium-68 labeled compound that targets the melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R), which is highly expressed in malignant melanoma cells. The agent is designed for use with PET/CT imaging to enhance visualization of tumors and assess their distribution in patients. Its primary mechanism involves acting as a positron-emission tomography (PET) enhancer by binding specifically to MC1R on tumor cells, thereby enabling precise imaging and potentially identifying candidates for targeted radiotherapeutic interventions[1][3][6]. As of May 2024, it has entered Phase I clinical trials in Australia for the diagnosis of malignant melanoma[1][8].
