68Ga-BBN-IRDye800CW is an experimental dual-modality imaging probe designed for preoperative positron emission tomography (PET) and intraoperative near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) imaging. The probe consists of a bombesin (BBN) peptide analogue, which specifically targets the gastrin-releasing peptide receptor (GRPR), conjugated to both the radioisotope gallium-68 (via a NOTA chelator) and the fluorescent dye IRDye800CW. GRPR is frequently overexpressed in various tumors, including lower-grade gliomas. This dual-modality approach allows for high-sensitivity metabolic imaging via PET to locate the tumor preoperatively, followed by real-time fluorescence navigation to assist surgeons in identifying tumor margins and achieving more precise resection during the operation.
