Overview

68Ga-BNU-PSMA is an investigational radiopharmaceutical diagnostic tracer developed for use in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. It consists of the positron-emitting radionuclide Gallium-68 (68Ga) conjugated to a small molecule ligand, BNU-PSMA, which specifically targets the Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA), also known as glutamate carboxypeptidase II (GCPII). PSMA is a transmembrane protein that is significantly overexpressed in prostate cancer cells and the neovasculature of various other solid tumors. Upon intravenous administration, the tracer binds to the extracellular domain of PSMA with high affinity, allowing for the sensitive detection and quantification of primary and metastatic lesions via PET/CT imaging. While PSMA tracers are primarily used in prostate cancer, 68Ga-BNU-PSMA is also being evaluated for its utility in diagnosing other cancer types that exhibit PSMA expression in their tumor microenvironment.
