Drug intelligence / Profile preview
68Ga-DOTA (gallium-68 DOTA) is an investigational radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent consisting of the positron-emitting radionuclide gallium-68 chelated by 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid (DOTA, also known as tetraxetan). Unlike peptide-conjugated DOTA tracers (such as 68Ga-DOTATATE or 68Ga-DOTATOC) which target specific cell-surface receptors, 68Ga-DOTA is a small, hydrophilic metal chelate that does not bind to specific receptors. Instead, it is freely filtered by the renal glomeruli without tubular reabsorption or secretion, making it highly useful as a PET imaging tracer for non-invasive, quantitative assessment of renal function, including the estimation of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and monitoring of urinary efflux. Additionally, 68Ga-DOTA has been investigated as a perfusion tracer to evaluate blood flow and vascular permeability in conditions such as myocardial infarction and localized inflammation.
