Drug intelligence / Profile preview
68Ga-DOTA-conjugated somatostatin receptor-targeting peptide refers to a class of radiolabeled somatostatin analogs (such as 68Ga-DOTATATE, 68Ga-DOTATOC, and 68Ga-DOTANOC) used as positron emission tomography (PET) imaging tracers. These agents consist of a somatostatin receptor (SSTR)-targeting peptide conjugated to the macrocyclic chelator DOTA, which stably binds the positron-emitting radionuclide Gallium-68 (68Ga). They bind with high affinity to somatostatin receptors (primarily SSTR2, but also SSTR3 and SSTR5 depending on the specific peptide), which are overexpressed on the surface of neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) and other SSTR-expressing neoplasms (such as pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas). PET/CT or PET/MRI imaging with these tracers allows for high-resolution, non-invasive localization, staging, and restaging of these tumors, as well as the selection of patients for peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) using therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals like 177Lu-DOTATATE.
