This is a combination of two radiopharmaceuticals used in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging for neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) and other malignancies. The first component, gallium-68 DOTATATE (NETSPOT), is a somatostatin receptor-targeted PET tracer that binds with high affinity to somatostatin receptor subtype 2 (SSTR2), allowing for the localization of SSTR-positive neuroendocrine tumors. The second component, fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG), is a glucose analog that accumulates in cells with increased glycolytic activity and is widely used to assess tumor metabolism and aggressiveness. Combined use of these agents provides complementary information on tumor differentiation and metabolic activity—critical for diagnosis, staging, prognosis assessment, and therapy planning in patients with neuroendocrine neoplasms[1][2][6]. NETSPOT was developed as the first FDA-approved kit for preparing Ga-68 DOTATATE[3][5].
