68Ga-DOTATOC is a radiopharmaceutical imaging agent consisting of the positron-emitting radioisotope gallium-68 (68Ga) complexed with the somatostatin analog DOTATOC (DOTA-0-Phe1-Tyr3-octreotide). It functions as a diagnostic PET tracer by binding with high affinity to somatostatin receptors, specifically subtype 2 (SSTR2), which are often overexpressed in various malignancies. While primarily approved for imaging neuroendocrine tumors, it is being investigated by the University Hospital, Grenoble (CHU Grenoble Alpes) in the DOTABREAST Phase 3 clinical trial. This study evaluates the agent's ability to detect SSTR2 expression in patients with metastatic breast cancer, potentially offering a more specific imaging modality compared to conventional 18F-FDG PET for characterizing metastatic lesions across different breast cancer subtypes.
