68Ga-DX600 is a radiopharmaceutical PET tracer designed for the non-invasive imaging of Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2 (ACE2) expression. It consists of the peptide DX600, a highly potent and selective ACE2 antagonist, conjugated to a chelator (typically DOTA) and labeled with the positron-emitting isotope Gallium-68. ACE2 is a key enzyme in the renin-angiotensin system that converts angiotensin II to angiotensin (1-7), and it is also the primary entry receptor for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. By binding specifically to the active site of ACE2, 68Ga-DX600 allows for the quantification of ACE2 density in various tissues, including the lungs, heart, and kidneys. This tracer is primarily used in research settings to study cardiovascular diseases, pulmonary fibrosis, and the pathophysiology of COVID-19.
