Drug intelligence / Profile preview
68Ga-exendin (specifically 68Ga-exendin-4) is a radiolabeled peptide-based diagnostic imaging agent used in positron emission tomography (PET) / computed tomography (CT) scans. It consists of exendin-4, a stable synthetic analog of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), conjugated to a chelator (such as NODAGA, DOTA, or NOTA) and labeled with the positron-emitting radioisotope gallium-68 ($^{68}\text{Ga}$). The tracer binds with high affinity to the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R), which is highly expressed on pancreatic beta cells and benign insulinomas. It is primarily used for the preoperative localization of insulinomas, the detection of focal congenital hyperinsulinism (CHI) in pediatric patients, and the non-invasive monitoring of transplanted pancreatic islets in patients with type 1 diabetes.
