Overview

68Ga-FAP-2286 is a radiolabeled peptide-based imaging agent designed for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. It consists of the FAP-2286 ligand, which binds with high affinity and selectivity to Fibroblast Activation Protein (FAP), conjugated to the radionuclide Gallium-68. FAP is a transmembrane protein highly expressed on activated fibroblasts, including cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in the tumor microenvironment and myofibroblasts in various fibrotic conditions such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, cirrhosis, and myocardial fibrosis. Originally developed by Clovis Oncology and later acquired by Novartis, FAP-2286 is part of a theranostic pair, where the same ligand can be labeled with Lutetium-177 (177Lu-FAP-2286) for therapeutic purposes. This specific Ga-68 version is primarily used as a diagnostic tool to visualize FAP expression and identify pathologic fibrosis or FAP-positive tumors.
