Overview

68Ga-SATO is a radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent developed by the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology for the positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of neuroblastoma. It consists of a small-molecule ligand, SATO-1, which is labeled with the positron-emitting radioisotope Gallium-68 (68Ga). The tracer specifically targets the Tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB), also known as NTRK2, a tyrosine kinase receptor that is frequently overexpressed in high-risk neuroblastoma and is associated with aggressive tumor behavior, poor prognosis, and resistance to standard therapies. By binding to TrkB with high affinity, 68Ga-SATO allows for the non-invasive visualization and quantification of TrkB expression in vivo. This imaging tool is intended to improve tumor detection, facilitate accurate staging, and assist in the selection of patients who may benefit from Trk-targeted therapies.
