Overview

7-beta-hydroxyepiandrosterone is an endogenous steroid metabolite classified as an androgen, estrogen, and neurosteroid. It is produced in the body from dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and epiandrosterone. This compound has been studied for its neuroprotective effects and may mediate some of the neuroprotective actions attributed to DHEA. Mechanistically, it acts as a highly potent antagonist of the G protein-coupled estrogen receptor (GPER), with high affinity (<1 nM). It can also bind to estrogen receptor beta (ERβ) and exhibits anti-inflammatory properties[5][8]. In supplement contexts, it has been used for weight loss, athletic performance enhancement, sexual health issues, and other purposes; however, there is no robust scientific evidence supporting these uses. The substance is considered possibly unsafe when taken orally due to risks such as infertility, behavioral changes, hair loss, breast development in men, liver damage, and heart disease[1].
