7-Fluoro-tryptamine (7FTA) is a small molecule tryptamine derivative that acts as a potent synthetic agonist of the orphan G protein-coupled receptor GPRC5A (Retinoic Acid-Induced Gene 1). It has been shown to induce GPRC5A-mediated β-arrestin recruitment with an EC50 of approximately 7.2 μM and can modulate cAMP levels and calcium signaling in human airway smooth muscle cells. While primarily utilized as a research tool and analytical reference standard in studies of immune and cancer signaling, recent preclinical research has explored its potential for alleviating airway hyperresponsiveness and inflammation in asthma by blunting calcium responses to bronchoconstrictors. It is not approved for human therapeutic use and is currently available only for research and forensic applications.
