Overview

7-methyl-GpppA is a synthetic cap analog of the natural 5' cap structure found on eukaryotic messenger RNA (mRNA). Chemically, it is a dinucleotide composed of 7-methylguanosine linked via a triphosphate bridge to adenosine. This molecule mimics the natural mRNA cap structure and can be incorporated into synthetic or in vitro transcribed mRNAs. Its primary use is as a research tool to study mechanisms of translation initiation, RNA stability, and interactions with proteins such as eukaryotic initiation factor 4E (eIF4E), which recognizes and binds the methylated guanosine cap during translation initiation. It also serves as a substrate for enzymes involved in mRNA decapping and degradation pathways[1][2][8].
