7-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine

The 7-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV7) is a sterile solution of saccharides of the capsular antigens of *Streptococcus pneumoniae* serotypes 4, 6B, 9V, 14, 18C, 19F, and 23F, individually conjugated to the non-toxic diphtheria CRM197 carrier protein. It is designed to induce active immunization against invasive disease caused by these specific serotypes. In the context of the EVAD trial conducted by the Institut National de la Santé Et de la Recherche Médicale (INSERM), it is being evaluated as a 'prime' dose in a prime-boost strategy followed by a 23-valent polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23) to improve immunogenicity in patients with common variable immunodeficiency (CVID). While PCV7 has largely been replaced by higher-valency vaccines (PCV13, PCV15, PCV20) for general pediatric and adult use, it remains a key component in research evaluating optimized vaccination schedules for immunocompromised populations.
