Drug intelligence / Profile preview
7228 is a novel Ultrasmall Particle of Iron Oxide (USPIO) developed by GUERBET. It functions as an MR imaging contrast agent, specifically designed to visualize atherosclerotic plaques. Preclinical studies in hyperlipidemic rabbits have shown that 7228 is taken up by macrophages within these plaques, leading to detectable susceptibility effects in MR imaging, and demonstrating its potential for functional characterization of plaque activity.
