Drug intelligence / Profile preview
8β-VE2 is a **synthetic estrogen** and a highly potent and selective **agonist of estrogen receptor beta (ERβ)**, used primarily as a research tool. It exhibits around 190-fold higher potency for ERβ over ERα in transactivation assays and a marked selectivity: 93-fold in rat and 180-fold in human for ERβ relative to ERα[1][6][9]. In animal studies, 8β-VE2 selectively stimulates ERβ-mediated biological effects (e.g., skeletal muscle growth, follicular development) and lacks typical ERα-mediated uterotrophic activity[1]. It is also used in research involving prostate cancer and muscle regeneration due to its selective anabolic and pro-apoptotic effects in certain tissues[5][4][1].
