Overview

8-Cyclopentyl-1,3-dipropylxanthine (DPCPX) is a potent and highly selective antagonist of the adenosine A1 receptor. It exhibits over 700-fold selectivity for the A1 subtype compared to other adenosine receptors. DPCPX is widely used as a research tool to study the physiological and pharmacological roles of adenosine A1 receptors in various tissues and systems. In addition to its primary action as an A1 antagonist, it has been reported to act as a phosphodiesterase inhibitor with notable activity against PDE4. Experimental studies have shown that DPCPX can modulate neurotransmitter release and influence behavioral responses in animal models. It has also demonstrated anti-cancer effects in vitro by inducing apoptosis in certain cancer cell lines[2][4][6].
