**8-gingerol** is a naturally occurring phenolic compound found predominantly in the rhizome of ginger (*Zingiber officinale*). It is part of the gingerol class, which also includes 6-gingerol and 10-gingerol, characterized by a 4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl group. 8-gingerol is bioactive, exhibiting several pharmacological properties. Mechanisms of action include activation of the **transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1)** channel, which contributes to the pungency of ginger. It also has anti-inflammatory activity through **cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibition**, immunomodulatory effects via suppression of T and B cell activation, and antioxidant properties, partially attributed to activation of the Nrf2 pathway. Additionally, 8-gingerol can inhibit the growth of *Helicobacter pylori* in vitro and is under investigation for potential anti-fibrotic and anticancer activities. While primarily studied in preclinical settings, it is notable for oral bioavailability and presence in food and botanical supplements derived from ginger[2][3][5][6].
