86C is a monoclonal antibody that specifically targets cell surface vimentin (CSV), a protein marker found on the surface of glioma stem cells (GSCs) but absent from normal cells. Developed by researchers at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, 86C is designed to overcome chemoresistance in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). The antibody works by binding to CSV, which sensitizes GSCs to temozolomide (TMZ)-mediated cell death. Preclinical evidence suggests that 86C can reverse resistance in GSCs, particularly in those with high CSV expression or rapid resurfacing rates, potentially offering a new strategy for treating aggressive brain tumors.
