89Zr-APOMAB is an investigational radioimmunoconjugate developed as an ImmunoPET/CT theranostic imaging agent. It consists of the chimeric monoclonal antibody APOMAB (chDAB4), which targets the Lupus-associated antigen La/SSB, radiolabeled with the positron-emitting radionuclide Zirconium-89 (89Zr). The La/SSB antigen is typically an intracellular protein but is overexpressed and becomes accessible on the surface of malignant cells undergoing apoptosis or necrosis, particularly after exposure to DNA-damaging agents like platinum-based chemotherapy. By selectively binding to these dying cancer cells, 89Zr-APOMAB enables the noninvasive detection and quantification of chemotherapy-induced cell death, potentially allowing clinicians to distinguish between chemosensitive and chemoresistant tumors in patients with advanced lung or ovarian cancer.
