Drug intelligence / Profile preview
89Zr-DFO-HSA is a preclinical positron emission tomography (PET) imaging radiopharmaceutical developed by researchers at Ulm University. It consists of human serum albumin (HSA) conjugated to the hexadentate chelator deferoxamine (DFO) and radiolabeled with the positron-emitting isotope zirconium-89 (89Zr). As a macromolecular tracer, 89Zr-DFO-HSA is designed to exploit the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect in solid tumors, allowing for the noninvasive visualization and quantification of macromolecular accumulation and vascular permeability. It has been evaluated in preclinical mouse xenograft models and the chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model to study tumor perfusion, vascular barrier defects, and the biodistribution of albumin-based drug delivery systems.
