Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**89Zr-F8scFv** is a zirconium-89-labeled short-chain variable fragment (scFv) of an antibody (F8) targeting oncofetal chondroitin sulfate (CS), a tumor-specific carbohydrate motif found in proteoglycans and highly expressed in many cancers but largely absent in normal tissues. Developed as a diagnostic imaging agent for immunoPET, it enables visualization of solid tumors, including gliomas, colon, and rectal cancers, through PET/CT by binding specifically to oncofetal CS motifs. The agent is primarily being investigated for its biodistribution, tumor accumulation, and pharmacology in humans to determine optimal tumor targeting for cancer imaging. VAR2 Pharmaceuticals developed the antibody fragment as part of their VARTUTRACE trial to study its safety, pharmacokinetics, and ability to enhance positron emission tomography (PET) imaging in oncology. It is not approved for therapeutic use; its function is diagnostic[1][4][10].
