89Zr-Tlc-PEG is a radiolabeled imaging agent consisting of a PEGylated human tear lipocalin (Tlc) scaffold labeled with the positron-emitting radioisotope zirconium-89 (89Zr). Developed by Pieris Pharmaceuticals, it is primarily utilized as a non-specific control or reference agent in preclinical positron emission tomography (PET) imaging studies. Its role is to provide a baseline for biodistribution and pharmacokinetic analysis, allowing researchers to distinguish between the specific target-mediated accumulation of Anticalin-based tracers (such as the c-Met-targeting 89Zr-PRS-110) and non-specific background uptake or blood pool activity. The tear lipocalin scaffold serves as the structural basis for the Anticalin class of biopharmaceuticals, and PEGylation is employed to modulate the protein's half-life and distribution profile.
