8M2D is a first-in-class peptide therapeutic developed by Cenna Biosciences for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Unlike traditional BACE or gamma-secretase inhibitors that target the enzymes responsible for amyloid-beta (Aβ) production, 8M2D binds directly to the Amyloid Precursor Protein (APP). Specifically, it targets the BACE1 cleavage site on APP, sterically hindering the enzyme's access and thereby reducing the production of all forms of Aβ (including Aβ40 and Aβ42). This substrate-targeting approach aims to avoid the toxicity associated with broad enzyme inhibition. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for safety, tolerability, and its ability to lower Aβ levels in healthy volunteers and patients with early Alzheimer's disease.
