Overview

9-beta-D-xylofuranosyladenine is a synthetic purine nucleoside analog in which adenine is attached to a beta-D-xylofuranose sugar via a beta-N(9)-glycosidic bond. It is structurally related to adenosine but features the rare sugar xylose instead of ribose. This compound has been studied as an experimental agent with potential antiviral and anticancer properties. Its mechanism of action likely involves interference with nucleic acid synthesis or metabolism by acting as an antimetabolite or chain terminator during DNA/RNA synthesis[1][2][4]. It has also been described as an adenosine analog and may inhibit enzymes involved in nucleotide metabolism[3][7].
