**99mTc-CCMSH** is a radiolabeled peptide composed of the radioisotope technetium-99m (99mTc) chelated to CCMSH, a cyclic analog of the alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). This compound acts as a targeted radiopharmaceutical, binding to the melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R), which is highly expressed in melanoma cells. By targeting MC1R, 99mTc-CCMSH enables imaging of melanoma tumors using single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). It is primarily used in preclinical research and investigational nuclear medicine studies to detect and evaluate melanoma lesions. The agent exploits the high affinity of CCMSH for MC1R to deliver the radioisotope specifically to melanoma tissue, thus allowing sensitive tumor localization and staging. Its mechanism of action is receptor-mediated, based on the specific uptake and internalization by tumor cells expressing MC1R.
