Overview

**99mTc-duramycin is a radiopharmaceutical imaging agent used for SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography) that targets cell death. It consists of the small peptide duramycin labeled with technetium-99m. The tracer binds with high affinity and selectivity to phosphatidylethanolamine, a phospholipid exposed on the surface of apoptotic and necrotic cells, enabling noninvasive imaging of cell death in vivo. Its primary clinical applications are in early assessment of tumor response to therapy, detection of cardiotoxicity from chemotherapy, evaluation of tissue toxicity, and potentially in other conditions involving cell death such as heart disease (myocardial infarction, transplant rejection), inflammation (systemic inflammatory response syndrome), and pulmonary disease (ARDS). The agent has demonstrated safety and favorable dosimetry profiles in first-in-human studies.**[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]
