Overview

**99mTc-human serum albumin** is a radiopharmaceutical composed of human serum albumin (HSA) labeled with technetium-99m, a gamma-emitting radionuclide.[1][4][8] When administered intravenously, it acts as a blood pool imaging agent and a vascular space tracer, distributing throughout the intravascular compartment. Its binding to albumin makes it suitable for nuclear medicine imaging studies such as cardiac function assessment, blood pool imaging, lymphoscintigraphy, sentinel lymph node mapping, and evaluation of protein-losing gastroenteropathy. The gamma emissions of technetium-99m enable visualization using a gamma camera, supporting the diagnosis and management of diverse vascular and lymphatic conditions.[1][4][8] The radiotracer remains in the vascular space for at least 4 hours, with biodistribution reflecting serum albumin kinetics. Clearance is principally renal.[1][4] Adverse reactions are rare but may include hypersensitivity, vascular dilation, and mild cardiovascular effects.[1] The drug is produced via aseptic preparation immediately prior to use, using commercially available HSA and freshly eluted technetium-99m pertechnetate.
