Overview

99mTc-labelled hMAb BIWA 4 is a radiolabeled humanized monoclonal antibody targeting CD44v6, a cell surface glycoprotein overexpressed in various epithelial cancers. The antibody (BIWA 4, also known as bivatuzumab) is conjugated with technetium-99m (99mTc) for use as a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical in radioimmunoscintigraphy and potentially for radioimmunotherapy. Its mechanism of action involves specific binding to the CD44v6 antigen on tumor cells, enabling targeted imaging or delivery of radiation. Developed primarily by Boehringer Ingelheim, it has been evaluated in phase I clinical trials for safety and biodistribution in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). The agent demonstrated preferential tumor accumulation and favorable safety at certain dose levels[1][2][9].
