Overview

99mTc-radiolabelled tiotropium is a radiolabelled version of tiotropium used for research and diagnostic purposes to study lung deposition patterns. Tiotropium itself is a long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA) bronchodilator that works by blocking M1, M2, and M3 muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in the lungs, preventing acetylcholine binding. This action leads to bronchodilation, decreased mucous gland secretions, and reduced airway inflammation. The radiolabelled version allows researchers to track the distribution and deposition of the drug in the lungs using gamma scintigraphy.
