99mTc-RP527 is a radiopharmaceutical agent consisting of a peptide derived from bombesin, which is linked at its N-terminus to a chelating sequence for technetium-99m (99mTc). It acts as an imaging agent by targeting the gastrin-releasing peptide receptor (GRPR), which is overexpressed in several types of tumors including prostate, breast, and pancreatic cancers. Upon intravenous administration, 99mTc-RP527 binds with high affinity to GRPR-expressing tumor cells and is internalized. The compound demonstrates rapid blood clearance and low uptake in non-target tissues such as lung and myocardium, allowing for high-contrast imaging of tumors in the supradiaphragmatic region. Its safety profile has been favorable in early human studies[2][5]. The primary indication under investigation has been tumor imaging for cancers expressing GRPR[3][5].
