**99mTc-SSS Lipiodol UltraFluid** is an investigational technetium-99m radiolabeled iodized-oil preparation developed as a biodistribution and potential pretherapeutic imaging surrogate for radiolabeled Lipiodol-based intra-arterial therapy of hepatocellular carcinoma. It consists of a lipophilic technetium-99m Super Six Sulfur complex dissolved in Lipiodol UltraFluid, an iodized poppy-seed oil. Following hepatic arterial administration, the oily radiotracer preferentially deposits in hypervascular liver tumors and can be measured by gamma imaging or gamma counting. In rat hepatocellular carcinoma experiments, stabilized water-in-oil and oil-in-water emulsions of this agent did not improve tumor targeting and instead reduced tumor uptake in several tested formulations.
