Drug intelligence / Profile preview
99mTc-UBI 29-41 is a technetium-99m labeled synthetic peptide fragment of the human/murine antimicrobial peptide ubiquicidin (specifically residues 29-41, sequence TGRAKRRMQYNRR). It is a cationic peptide that preferentially binds to the anionic cell membranes of viable bacteria and fungi at the site of infection, allowing for the differentiation of bacterial/fungal infections from sterile inflammation. It is used as a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical for SPECT (single-photon emission computed tomography) imaging of various musculoskeletal infections, osteomyelitis, prosthetic joint infections, and diabetic foot infections.
