Overview

9B9 is a monoclonal antibody primarily recognized for its high affinity and specificity for the N-domain of Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE; CD143). It is a critical tool in 'ACE phenotyping' and 'conformational fingerprinting,' which are diagnostic techniques used to detect structural changes in ACE associated with granulomatous diseases like sarcoidosis. Beyond its diagnostic utility, 9B9 has been extensively researched for its ability to selectively accumulate in the pulmonary endothelium following systemic administration. This property allows it to serve as a targeting vehicle for delivering therapeutic payloads, such as the antioxidant enzyme catalase (9B9-CAT) to treat lung ischemia-reperfusion injury, or gene therapy vectors to the pulmonary vasculature. Notably, the designation '9B9' is non-specific, as it also refers to an anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) monoclonal antibody used in hepatocellular carcinoma research and an antibody used to study ecdysteroid receptors in insect models.
