Overview

9H4 is an IgM monoclonal antibody developed by Everon Biosciences that specifically targets oxidized vimentin, a biomarker for cellular senescence. Specifically, it recognizes vimentin modified by malondialdehyde (MDA) at the cysteine 328 (C328) residue. This modification occurs when vimentin is exposed to oxidative stress, leading to its translocation to the cell surface in senescent cells. By binding to this surface-exposed oxidized vimentin, 9H4 can be used to detect, monitor, or potentially clear senescent cells, which are implicated in the pathogenesis of various age-related conditions, including neurodegenerative disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. The antibody was originally identified by screening for surface antigens on senescent mouse lung fibroblasts.
