The Aβ1-10 peptide vaccine is an active immunotherapy designed to target amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptides, specifically the N-terminal 1-10 amino acid sequence, for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Its mechanism of action involves inducing a humoral immune response, leading to the production of antibodies against Aβ. These antibodies are intended to facilitate the clearance of Aβ plaques and aggregates in the brain, thereby reducing neuroinflammation, synaptic dysfunction, and cognitive decline associated with the disease. To enhance immunogenicity, the Aβ1-10 peptide is often conjugated to carrier proteins such as ovalbumin (OVA) or keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH). Research indicates that this immunization strategy can mitigate Aβ-induced neuropathology in animal models of Alzheimer's disease.
