A-779 is a selective peptide antagonist of the **Mas receptor (MasR)**, which is the primary receptor for the heptapeptide angiotensin-(1-7) [Ang-(1-7)]. Chemically, it is a synthetic analog of Ang-(1-7) where the C-terminal proline is replaced by D-alanine ([D-Ala7]-Ang-(1-7)). A-779 is a critical pharmacological tool used in research to investigate the counter-regulatory arm of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), specifically the ACE2/Ang-(1-7)/MasR axis. By blocking MasR, A-779 inhibits the vasodilatory, anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrotic, and neuroprotective effects typically mediated by Ang-(1-7). It is extensively used in experimental models to study the role of the Mas receptor in conditions such as cardiovascular disease, renal injury, metabolic disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's and Huntington's disease.
