Overview
a-eHSP90 is a preclinical-stage monoclonal antibody being developed by Pharmis Biofarmaceutica in collaboration with several Portuguese research institutions, including the Instituto de Investigação e Inovação da Universidade do Porto (i3S). The antibody specifically targets extracellular heat shock protein 90 (eHSP90), a protein that plays a critical role in promoting cancer cell invasion and the metastatic cascade. By binding to and neutralizing eHSP90, the drug aims to inhibit the pro-metastatic functions of the protein, thereby reducing the spread of tumors. It has demonstrated efficacy in animal models of melanoma and is being positioned for the treatment of various metastatic cancers.
