Overview
A-SAA vaccine is a recombinant protein vaccine designed to target acute-phase serum amyloid A (A-SAA). Developed by researchers at Southern Medical University, the vaccine is designed to induce neutralizing antibodies against A-SAA, a critical driver in the early stages of acute kidney injury (AKI). By neutralizing A-SAA, the vaccine prevents its binding to CD36 and TLR4, thereby reducing tubule cell injury, apoptosis, and macrophage-mediated inflammation. In preclinical mouse models, the vaccine has demonstrated reno-protective effects against ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI)-induced and cisplatin-induced AKI.
