Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Avivo Biomedical (formerly ABOzymes Biomedical) is developing an enzyme-based technology for the ex vivo conversion of blood group A packed red blood cells (PRBCs) into group O, the universal donor type. This technology utilizes proprietary enzymes to remove or modify the A antigens on the surface of red blood cells, thereby eliminating blood type incompatibility barriers in transfusions. By converting type A blood into the universal donor type, the platform aims to increase the supply of compatible blood products and reduce the risk of hemolytic transfusion reactions. The program is currently in preclinical development as part of Avivo's broader blood type conversion platform, which also includes applications for organ transplantation.
