Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A1 is a specific medical cannabis formulation developed by Breath of Life (BOL) International Pharma, consisting of a plant-derived cannabis extract standardized to a high cannabidiol (CBD) and low delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) ratio (approximately 20:1). Specifically, the A1 formulation contains 36.6 mg of CBD and 1.8 mg of THC per 6-drop dose, diluted in an olive oil vehicle for sublingual administration. The drug is being investigated for the treatment of symptoms associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and neuropathic pain. Its mechanism of action involves the modulation of the endocannabinoid system; THC acts as a partial agonist at the cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2, while CBD acts as a negative allosteric modulator of CB1, an agonist at the 5-HT1A serotonergic receptor, and a modulator of various ion channels and orphan receptors such as GPR55.
